Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. A few years later, she was a general reporter for NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was part of a panel discussion at the the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Her coverage included a variety of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the budget and tax reform, as well as the arms control. She traveled widely with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
